1970's Waves saw the parting down the middle of the hair and was quite similar to previous styles from previous era's with slight change.
1960's hair was about volume and modernity. High fashion yet simple!
1950's hair applied not only to women but also to men with the introduction of teddy boy's. Which included a quiff and dressing smart. The hair has Victorian connotations to it and can also be created on the women.
To create Volume and lift inspired by the 50's, 60's and 70's you will need:
- Comb to backcomb
- Pin Tail Brush
- Dry Shampoo
- Grips
- Sectioning Clips
- Curling Tongs
- Dressing out comb
Step by Step:
- Remember to follow health and safety. If the model has any scalp conditions then take this into consideration with the products you use and the techniques used on the hair.
- Brush the hair thoroughly to remove and knots and tangles.
- Part the hair down the centre. Ensure that the parting is dead centre by getting your model to look straight into the mirror.
- Part the hair also at the sides just behind the ear at clip aside so it is not in your way.
- The nape of the neck is your finishing point for the style you are creating.
- Starting just behind the section of hair at the ears, at the top of the head, take a small section and spray at the roots with dry shampoo. Brush the excess dry shampoo off with a brush. The dry shampoo allows the backcomb to stay in place.
- Pull the hair up and wrap into the curling tong, curling the hair away from your body. Put the curl in place with a sectioning clip. A grip would leave the marks on the hair. Make sure that the curling tong is away from the models head, and check that it is not too hot for them.
- Continue down the head until you reach the finishing point at the nape of the neck.
- Apply this technique to the hair either side of the centre curls. Curl the hair in the same way and secure with a sectioning clip. Make the hair into a triangle shape.
- To check that the hair is cool, place your finger inside the curl. If it is still warm then it is not ready to take out.
- When the hair has cooled down, take out the curls starting from the bottom of the hair. Unravel the bottom girl and backcomb by brushing the hair down with a backcomb brush. Once backcomb has created, push it to the root and repeat.
- Once that strand of hair has been backcombed, repeat for the other curls, from bottom to the top.
- Tease the hair with a dressing out comb to join the sections together so that they blend nicely.
- Once all of the hair has been backcombed, pull the hair into your hand and twist at the finishing point at the nape of the neck. Twist up, creating a beehive shape. Make sure to look in the mirror and check that the hair is even. Once it is, pin in place.
- The front section that has been placed aside until later can now be pulled back behind the ears and pinned at the nape of the neck.
- Spray with hairspray to secure.
- The backcombing should be easy to brush out. Make sure to be gentle with the hair.
